All nice people, like us, are We
And everyone else is They:
But if you cross over the sea,
Instead of over the way,
You may end by (think of it!) looking at We
As only a sort of They!
— Rudyard Kipling, “We and They”

Multicultural Team Building (MCTB)

We may find ourselves working in virtual teams or along side people from several cultures outside of our own.  Often communication can become difficult and the productivity of the team and company can be negatively impacted.

This course is highly interactive offering participants an opportunity to gain cultural insights and foster a positive attitude toward their multicultural team members. Focusing on how to communicate effectively whether in face-to-face or distant relationships with those from diverse backgrounds or interests is the aim of this training.  The program is characterized by an integration of theory, practical application, and plenty of opportunity for discussion.

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the concept of culture and how cultural differences can affect business practices and relationships.

  • Learn ways in which culture affects communication patterns and styles.

  • Identify key cultural values and beliefs that influence the way in which individual team members may see themselves, view others, and conduct business appropriately.

  • Identify the key elements which describe how one’s company operates.

  • Define the elements of a high performance multicultural team.

  • Identify key characteristics and skills of an effective multicultural team member.

  • Understand the concept of cultural synergy and how to effectively work towards reaching that goal in a multicultural team.

  • Provide skill-building exercises as a means to nurture the process of building a successful multicultural team.

  • Formulate an action plan to begin the process of successful multicultural team building.
